Different Variants of Online Roulette

Before you learn about the roulette payout rules, you need to know about the roulette variants available online. The most recognizable variant is the American roulette, which has 38 pockets with one zero pocket and one double zero pocket.

The European roulette gameis quite similar to the American one, but it just has one zero pocket. So there are 37 pockets in the European roulette, which gives European roulette better odds than the American one.

There is one more version of roulette that is a little less popular but offers the best odds. The French roulette. French roulette with either En Prison and La Partage rules will give you the best odds among all of the forms of roulette.

The difference in the number of pockets also creates a difference in the roulette payout rules. We will explore these payout rules soon, but we hope you have understood the different roulette variants for now.

The Basics of Roulette Payouts

The payout in roulette is based on the odds of getting a win from the bet. You will see the payout written in the form of x to 1, where x is how much you will win for betting one dollar. For instance, the payout of 35 to 1 means that you can win $35 after betting $1. When you win you also get your initial wager back.

The payout also shows how risky it is to make a bet. The bets with higher payouts come with higher risk, so you have to strike a balance between the payout and the risk you are willing to take.

Various Types of Roulette Bets

You don’t have to work hard to understand how Roulette payouts work. However, you need to pay some attention to the betting options that you have. We will explain how the payouts work a little later, but you must understand the basic betting options that you have first.

If you are playing American roulette, you will only have two main betting options. You can either make outside bets or inside bets in the American roulette. Outside bets are the bets you make outside of the numbers inside the rectangle on the roulette table.

The inside bets are the opposite of the outside bets as they are made inside the rectangle that contains the numbers. However, there is a third type of bet that is only seen in European and French roulette. This unique bet is called a call bet. You won’t find call bet or announced bet in every casino.

The call bet allows you to bet your money on specific patterns that can give you good wins if you are lucky. You will have to call that you are making this bet and the dealer will place the chips on the table for you.

These are the basic bets that you can make, but each category has several options that you can choose from.

Outside Bets Payouts in Roulette

Outside roulette bets are the safest type of bets because they have the best odds. However, this means that you won’t win as much as you would win from an inside bet. Beginners prefer outside bets because they are easy to understand and help beginners in reducing risk. Remember that outside bets are never made on a particular number on the board.

You will get to choose from various options that will give you decent odds of winning. However, you will lose your roulette bet if the roulette ball lands on zero or double zero pockets. In simple words, there isn’t that much flexibility in the outside bets, but they are a safe way to casino roulette.

We will now explain the various outside bets that you can choose from so that you never feel confused about the options ever again.

Two Types of colour bets are seen in online Roulette, which are red or black

Red/Black Payout Rules

You might have noticed that the roulette wheel has alternate red and black pockets. One of the most popular outside bets is to bet on either red or black. If you can predict the right colour, you will double your bet amount. So if you bet $1, you will get $2 in return ($1 extra for the win).

The odds of winning a red or black bet is 47.4% in the American roulette variant and 48.6% in European roulette. It is lower than 50% because of the zero pockets on the wheels.

Payout Rules for Odd/Even Bets

This is quite similar to the red or black bet, and the only difference is that you will be betting on odd or even instead of red or black. The probability of the ball landing on an odd or even number is close to 50% so that you can enjoy this safe bet without any worrying.

Like the black or red bet, you will lose money if the roulette balls land in the zero or double zero pockets.

High/Low Bet Payout Rules✅

This is yet another low-risk bet where you have a close to 50% chance of winning. You will bet on whether the ball will land on the high or low numbers in this bet. The low numbers are 1 to 18, and the high numbers are 19 to 36.

You can go for either of the three bets that we mentioned, namely odd/even, red/black, or high/low, because the chances of winning are similar in all three.

Roulette Column and Dozen Bets Payout Rules

In this section, we will explain the final two outside bets.

Column Bet: You will notice that the numbers on the roulette layout are organized in three columns, with each column having 12 numbers. You will place your bet on which column the ball will land on. If the ball lands on one of the numbers of the column you chose, you will get a payout of 2:1.

The payout is a bit better here because the chances of winning are lower. The chances are low because there are three columns, so you have a 1 in 3 chance of making the correct prediction if we ignore the zero pockets.

Dozens Bet: It is similar to the column bet, but you will be betting on the first, second, or third dozens of numbers in this bet. The first dozen is 1 to 12. The second and the third dozens are 13-24 and 25-36, respectively. The payout is 2:1, just like the column bet.

Roulette Inside Bets Payout Rules

The inside bets include all bets that you make on a single number or a set of numbers on the rectangle with all of the numbers. If you place your bet anywhere inside the roulette layout, you can be sure it is an inside bet.

Unlike outside bets, inside bets are usually preferred by experienced players who don’t mind taking a higher risk. The payouts for the inside bets are much higher than the outside bets, so it can be rewarding for you to take the risk.

Let us explore the various inside bet options that you can enjoy while playing roulette.

Payouts for Straight-Up Bets in Roulette

Straight-Up bets are also known as single number bets, and rightly so as this is a player bet on a single lucky number on the roulette layout. This is the riskiest roulette bet you can make, and it is certainly not for the faint-hearted.

The odds of hitting a straight-up bet are 37 to 1 in American roulette and 36 to 1 in player rules for european roulette. You will recieve a payout of 35 to 1 if you make the correct prediction. This is a huge payout, but you also have to consider the high risk of losing.

Payout Rules for Split Bets

A split bet in roulette is a bet on two numbers next to each other on the roulette layout. This bet is placed by placing the chip between the two numbers that you want to bet on. This bet is not as risky as the straight-up bet for obvious reasons. The payout is lower than the straight-up bet, as you will only get a payout of 17 to 1 when you win.

Street and Corner Bets Payout Rules in Roulette

Let us take a look at the payout rules of street bets and corner bets.

Street Bets: You will notice that there are rows of three numbers on the roulette layout. A street bet allows you to bet on the three consecutive numbers in the same row. All you need to do is place a chip on the edge of the row that you want to bet on. This bet pays 11-1.

Corner Bets: A corner bet is similar to a street bet, but it allows you to bet on 4 numbers instead of 3. You can bet on 4 numbers that form a square like 16, 17, 19, and 20 through corner bets. The payout is 8:1.

Five Number Bet Payout Rules

Payout rules for five number bet in American Roulette

A five number bet is a unique type of bet that can only be seen in American roulette. It includes five numbers, which are 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3. You can place this bet in roulette by placing the chip on the outside corner line between 1 and 0. The winning payout of this bet is 6:1, but remember that you only have a 13.16% chance of winning this bet.

Six Number Bet Payout Rules

In this bet, the bet is placed on two rows of numbers near each other on the roulette layout. Since one row has 3 numbers, this bet is placed on 6 numbers. The winner payout for this bet is 5 to 1, as you have a decent chance (1 in 6) of winning this bet if you try it a few times.

Announced/Call Bet Payout Rules

Call bets and announced bets are terms that are used interchangeably, but they have a small difference. Both of them cover a wide variety of betting patterns. However, the dealer places the chips for you in the case of the call bets, and you only have to tell the dealer that you want to bet. So call bets are made on credit, while announced bets require you to place the chips on the table.

Other than this crucial difference, both of them are the same. If you are playing online, you will find call bets or announced bets in most casinos and place your bets easily.

Roulette Payout Rules - FAQ

In this section, we will cover frequently asked questions about Roulette payout rules.

Is there a way to remember the roulette payout rules?

You can remember them by trying different betting patterns and practising as much as you can. You can also note down the rules on a piece of paper for your reference.

How much can I win by making a high bet on my favourite number in roulette?

You will get a payout of 35 times your initial bet. So if you bet $1,000 on your favourite number and win, you will get $36,000 in return. Out of the payout of $36,000, your profit will be $35,000. This is a risky bet as your odds of winning are very low, so be careful if you decide to go for it.

How are the payouts affected by the number of zeros on the roulette wheel?

You can get a return of 35 to 1 by betting on zero or double zero according to the type of roulette that you are playing. Having a single zero is better because it improves your odds of winning. In short, European roulette has better odds than the American one.

Can you explain how these payout odds work?

Let us assume that the payout odds are 5 to 1. The first number is how much you will profit if you win, and the second number is your bet. So if you bet $1 and win, you will get a profit of $5 (the total return will be $6).
